I was studying a very interesting Doctrine this weekend. I heard a sermon on this topic and it reminded me of the complexities of God. God is much more complicated than the human mind can comprehend. We Think we have him all figured out by simply reading, praying or going to church our whole life. However, many things are inconceivable to the mind. I remember there was one discussion I had with an atheist, and he asked me, "If your God is all powerful, all mighty, how come he craves your worship, your obedience, your prayer, your love?" Quite honestly, I really didn't know how to answer that question. That thought circulated my mind for many years, until i heard it in a sermon. The answer was right there in front of us the whole time. The idea of Gods needs is so simple. Is God lonely? Does God crave…
Love does not boast. The famous words written to the Corinthians. Let's face it, many people struggle with this... Why is boasting so bad? Because what happens to other people when you boast? Boast simply means brag... I think most people have met someone that likes to brag about themselves or their accomplishments. Why is bragging a sin? Well, what happens when you brag? Well, imagine you are standing in a conversation and someone says; I just got a awesome promotion, I got a raise to $80k a year! Instantly, you remember how you got a raise two months ago and now make $100k a year! And chime in..."oh that's nothing! I made $20k more than that...pshhhh" what you have done is raised yourself, and made someone feel low. Essentially by doing that you cause, envy, jealousy, anger, hate...and eventually your brothers to stumble! I catch myself constantly talking about…
I'm sure many of you at one point wondered this... Does God punish people here on earth, more specifically does he punish Christians? We as children are raised with all sorts of punishments; be polite, don't use swear words, don't lie, etc.... As we get older we are conditioned by society as well, don't steal, don't fight, don't drive recklessly or speed (very difficult for me sometimes). And as we get into relationships with partners, or friends...we also learn to not lie, be rude, deceive or cheat....otherwise there will be consequences. But what about our spiritual life, are there punishments for committing sin? We know as parents, pet owners, or maybe bosses...that if you let things slide, that doesn't actually benefit the individual at hand. On that note, does God feel the same way about our transgressions? Interestingly enough, I think people confuse the term punishment or discipline. When an Officer gives…
