Recipe for spiritual growth
I heard a very good sermon today. It talked about the difficulties and ups an downs of our spiritual life.
I’ve never really thought about it this way, but many people think that they are the only ones that struggle with as much sin as they do in their life.
But we have to remember that we are all human and all people struggle with sin, although many are attracted to different types of sin, doesn’t change its all relevant.
As I discussed earlier this week, that sin is a daily battle, we have to remember that the minute we wake up we enter a battle field. A field that although we may not see, sees us.
Equipping yourself starts the minute you wake up, the armor you put on will give you the ability to shield and defend yourself against the temptations of daily life.
The term that was used was flirting with sin. We often see situations in life and forget that even entertaining an idea or a thought we have already flirted with the sin, we have already planted the seed.
The seed if entertained will grow, which will eventually lead to sin. We aren’t invincible, even the greatest names in the Bible dealt with the fall of sin.
We can be Godly individuals but if we let our guard down, Satan will take advantage of those situations, and try and attack our integrity and spirituality.
Once sin has been committed, we feel massive guilt, we feel that our power and spirituality has diminished, and we feel worthless. This is precisely satans plan. He wants us to be depressed, sad, guilty and slip up. He wants us to feel worthless and leave our faith completely.
But we have to remember, these consequences can be avoided, we don’t have to feel guilty, we don’t have to feel remorse. All this many easily be avoided with to simple things.
When you wake up do two things:
1. Pray
2. Read the Bible
These two things will give you the daily strength to run from sin, to protect our spirituality.
I challenge everyone just to try this. See what happens, see if God will change your life, possibly even your heart….
You have nothing to lose, other than the sin in your life.
And typically the times we encounter the most temptations are when we are angry, hungry, lonely or tired.
Me personally, being such an extrovert (enjoying people’s company) I feel the most vulnerable when I am lonely. My mind starts to play tricks on me, I start to doubt my faith, I start to get the most absurd urges, I start to feel sorry for myself and I am tempted to do just about anything just to get away from these feelings. But don’t forget that for a temporary satisfaction you are wagering your entire spiritual life……
