Yesterday I discussed how many people repent and sin, repent and sin…on this vicious cycle. I wanted to further discuss this issue. I wanted to discuss how it doesn’t have to be this way. I wanted to tell you, that it is possible to not sin.

Okay, so I talked about how important it is for us to make a decision to stay committed, now as we further get into the theology I wanted to explain that it isn’t impossible In the Old Testament, yes, it was impossible not to sin. But the sole purpose of Jesus’s coming was to clean the slate, to remove the burden of sin off of our blood. To send the counselor, the divine power, the advocate who is the Holy Spirit to allow man to stay away from sin (sin from Adam and Eve which caused the fall of man).

So for those that have fully decided to commit themselves to the Lord, you are commanded to get baptized. This is a requirement of scripture. Many would argue that you can attain salvation without baptism, regardless, if you acknowledge Jesus as your Lord and Savior you must commit yourself fully.

The idea of not being required to take baptism is the same idea of being with a person your whole life and not getting married. Many people don’t want to get married because they fear the commitment. They want the freedom to do as they please, without the accountability. Is this not true among society these days? Girls are like, oh I don’t want to date because I don’t want to be obligated to promise you anything. Many so called Christians go to church their whole life, yet refuse to get baptized. Is this not the same thing? Trying to receive all the benefits of a relationship without the accountability?

I am stressing the seriousness of accountability because our society lacks it these days. They want all the fixings without the liability. They want to sample the food without having to pay for it.

On another note, repentance should be treated with seriousness. Many people that repent do it as a traditional process, underestimating the seriousness of this decision. This is similar to marriage these days, Satan has perverted the seriousness of marriage to discredit Gods plan for man. Holy matrimony isn’t even applied these days especially among the Christians. Although, this concept is Christian based, Christians abuse marriage no differently than non-believers.

How many Christians do you know that have divorced? Many of which, simply because they didn’t get along. Or they were no longer in love. Many ungodly reasons that are very un-biblical.

I think people should treat repentance not only 100 times more serious than marriage but actually understand what they are getting themselves into. When you repent you must realize that you are a new man, you have been born again, and are no longer a slave to sin. So start acting like it.

Many people treat repentance like it isn’t a big deal. Like you can repent over and over and over again! I think this mentality is wrong. Its like walking into a marriage with the plan of either divorce or cheating intentions.

Now let me reiterate what that means. When you repent, you are forgiven for your sin, because you have prayed out to God with a sincere and humble heart, God has forgiven you. Because you have made a decision to accept Jesus Christ; he has renewed your heart and will give you the power to not sin by the power of the Holy Spirit. Once this decision has been made you should further proceed to be baptized. Which comes right after repentance.

So what about people that choose not to repent?

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lamp stand from its place, unless you repent (Revelation 2:5).

Jesus warns us what will happen if we do not repent. He will remove you from the harvest. The weeds are always removed and burned, only the crops that bring a harvest are kept and made useful.

So remember, if your sole purpose on this earth is to live for yourself, God may chose to remove you from this earth. If you do not play a role in increasing Gods kingdom, than your purpose for life is pointless.

Keep in mind, we are all sinners. The sin that I am referring to in this series is the sin of death. This is things like sexual immorality, lying, cheating, stealing, killing, deceiving, and so forth. These sins are chained to the ankles of a non-believer. They are only removed and forgiven when you repent. The sin that you may face on a daily basis is sin like- being so angry you  swear, being so angry you fight with your spouse. Seeing a gorgeous woman and sinning with your eyes, etc…

All these sins are things we will deal with daily, simply because we are present in the body. The flesh; which we are not able to escape until we pass in the afterlife. And the same flesh Paul was referring to when he said; “Although I do not want to sin, I sin because I live in the flesh..” The body, because of the way its created will have its temptations. These temptation however, can be conquered if the man lives in the Spirit and not in the flesh.

Paul addresses this on many counts;

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please (Galatians 5:16).

So remember, when you decide to walk with Jesus, Don’t treat it so lightly. Its a serious matter, and should be approached very earnestly. Do not think that God doesn’t know your heart, and doesn’t know your true intentions. He will only give you true repentance when you act with a sincere heart, when you actually plan on making a commitment.

I think in our generation even marriage -even as high as the divorce rate is- is still taken more seriously than our commitment to God. I think if we were to fall into the OT judgement, people would think twice instead of playing around with Gods grace. They would be fearful for God to unleash his wrath, but because we live in a society where they preach forgiveness only, and not the severity of Gods power, people underestimate Gods true nature. He will not be mocked nor be treated like a genie. If your intentions are pure, he will pour out his grace upon you and on every part of your life. If they are not, he will unleash his wrath.

I will say unlike the nature of human kind, God doesn’t need us. He can live without us. You ever notice that many people you know only call when they need something. They see you as a means to an end, or an opportunity to receive some sort of benefit. God however, doesn’t sit up and heaven and think; “oh how empty my life is because so and so hasn’t repented.” However, because we know this, we have to realize that although God doesn’t need us, he actually wants us. Because he loves us so much he wants us to succeed.

So commit already and quit laying off God- like some sort of engagement. Or it may be too late, and Gods grace may pass…..
