Trinity- Father, Son and Holy Spirit
I was studying a very interesting Doctrine this weekend. I heard a sermon on this topic and it reminded me of the complexities of God.
God is much more complicated than the human mind can comprehend. We Think we have him all figured out by simply reading, praying or going to church our whole life. However, many things are inconceivable to the mind.
I remember there was one discussion I had with an atheist, and he asked me, “If your God is all powerful, all mighty, how come he craves your worship, your obedience, your prayer, your love?”
Quite honestly, I really didn’t know how to answer that question. That thought circulated my mind for many years, until i heard it in a sermon.
The answer was right there in front of us the whole time. The idea of Gods needs is so simple.
Is God lonely? Does God crave our attention? Is God so insecure he constantly sits on his throne and waits for people to cry out to him in repentance?…..
Well many of you might think well, of course not, but how do you justify that he really isn’t? How do you explain to a non-believer that he is much more than that?
Well, I know many of you have at one point heard about the trinity.
Gods face three in one- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
But how long has This concept been around? Was God alone when man was created?
Many people think that God was so lonely he created man to worship him.
Interestingly enough, we can find many passages where that isn’t true.
What if I told you that the trinity existed well before man was created. What if I told you that God isn’t the lonely God many non believers perceive him to be?
We read in Genesis 1:26-
“Then God said, let “us” make man in our image”….
Reread that….
Did you notice that God said us? Who is he talking about?
Is he talking about humans? well, no. Is he talking about angels? No, because angels have a different role in heaven and do not have the ability to create. So who is God talking to?
He is talking to the Godhead of who he is; the son and Spirit (three in one).
We also see in Genesis:
Behold, the man has become like one of us. (Gen 3:22)
And further in Genesis:
Come, let us go down and there confuse their language. (Gen 11:7)
So God is making it known that he isn’t alone just like we shouldn’t be… God has never been alone. He is working together as the Triune Godhead (Three working together to complete the same mission, fulfill the same purpose).
Because we were created in Gods image we too should not be alone….
Genesis 2:18 “It is not good that the man be alone”…
So he created the woman.
Because we are are created in the image of God (actually if you dig deeper, the image of the trinity) we are built the same way.
God desires relationships, he desires communion, he desires our love, Just as much as we desire his….
We were created to live in the presence of God, we are emotional creatures Because God is emotional too.
• Anger – Psalm 7:11; Deuteronomy 9:22; Romans 1:18
• Laughter – Psalm 37:13; Psalm 2:4; Proverbs 1:26
• Compassion – Psalm 135:14; Judges 2:18; Deuteronomy 32:36
• Grief – Genesis 6:6; Psalm 78:40
• Love – 1 John 4:8; John 3:16; Jeremiah 31:3
• Hate – Proverbs 6:16; Psalm 5:5; Psalm 11:5
• Jealousy – Exodus 20:5; Exodus 34:14; Joshua 24:19
• Joy – Zephaniah 3:17; Isaiah 62:5; Jeremiah 32:41
We are no different as his creation, we may often be over-emotional, due to our existence (not being emotionally mature).
I think to briefly answer that question, is God needy? No. Does he crave the relationship with his creation? Yes.
We too crave relationships in our life.
When we pray we connect with God, using the Spirit to Connect with Christ, which testifies for us in front of God.
God has never existed outside of the trinity, Which makes him all the more divine, powerful, and complete.
