Distractions of life:

We live in a world were everyone is fueled by money, looks, popularity, acceptance, etc…We spend a majority of our time worrying about how we look, and what others will think of us.

We spend countless hours at the shopping malls picking out outfits for events where we will be judged based on our appearance.

Then, we spend countless hours prepping ourselves for those events, to await judgement…

We spend years at the gym; toning, shaping, carving ourselves…to make others proud of us. We think this will help us be accepted. We think this will cure our irrational insecurities.

We spend years in schools, colleges, universities…pursuing education, intellect, identity, or recognition.

We spend a lifetime proving to other that’s we are smart, we are talented, we are one of a kind…..we push and push our entire lives to impress as many people as we can, and hope we make a great impression on everyone.

We often are consumed with the world standards, and we allow the social norms to manipulate or next move.

We are controlled by others, although it may not be by choice, but by peer pressure. We allow others to define who we are, and change the way we should be..

We should not rely on others to shape our perceptions.

We should only rely on Christ. We should always remember, that this life is temporary. You will not take your body to heaven, you will not take your bank account to heaven, nor your popularity…

We only take our soul, which if properly managed can pass through those Golden gates…

I will not lie, I am not above the influence…I too run after fashion, I too want to look good, I too care how others perceive me, I care about my education and the career I plan to pursue in life….

But those are all worldly things, and shouldn’t be the main focus of life, but the bonus attributes of a more comfortable lifestyle…

We as people, need to distinguish the difference between the wants and needs in life…you don’t need a million dollar house, you don’t need to have 1% body fat, you don’t need to be the most popular person in the room.

What you do need:

You need a relationship with Christ, you need to build and strengthen that daily, you need to spend time on your knees praying, and believe me, all those wants might come true if your godliness outweighs your selfishness…

Focus on God, and he will take care of the rest; your career, your finances, your love life, your residence, etc….

I have to point this out, I am not encouraging laziness, I am not condoning being slackers, but I’m differentiating obsession and moderation.

And as far as health goes, he will not help you lose weight…so maybe a few less slices of pizza, and a couple less days on the couch…God won’t be wasting his miracles on your gluttony and laziness
